"Good-enough" leadership...isn't.

Many departments have good enough leadership.
Meetings are held.
Reports are written.
Boxes are checked and stuff gets done.

But good enough is draining morale -- and your budget.

Uninspired folks burn out, languish, and even leave.

Good enough leadership is costing you.

On the other hand...great leadership?

Those departments feel magical.
People solve problems before they become crises.
Creativity flourishes.
Engagement is high.
People love coming to work.

Those departments have great leaders.

Even more, great leaders free up resources (human and material) that can go right back to your mission.

Great leadership is an investment that pays for itself—in retention, trust, and culture.

Being in a position of leadership within a university can feel incredibly isolating. This workshop gave me the tools and the support I didn’t even realize I needed.

How do you move your campus leadership from good enough to great?

Not by...

cancel

Promoting smart people and hoping for the best

cancel

Giving new leaders a mentor to call when things fall apart

cancel

Penalizing leaders for struggling when they don't know what to do.

Equip them with the skills they need and a community that gets them.

Provide a framework for taking confident action

Surround them with folks who understand what they're going through

Support their growth as they develop their personal leadership style

That’s why I created 10 1/2 Lessons for Leaders: to give your leaders the tools they need to build the culture your organization depends on.
TRANSFORM YOUR CAMPUS IN JUST

 10 1/2 LESSONS

Imagine having a toolkit of simple phrases to guide your leadership decisions, moment by moment.

That's what each lesson gives you: complex leadership principles distilled into an easy-to-remember phrase you can apply when you need it.

These are not generic, one-size-fits-all lessons. Instead, they create a framework you can adapt to your style and values.

This way you'll lead with confidence while staying authentic and uniquely you.

Plus: when colleagues learn together, leadership gets easier.

Sharing a common language helps you easily support each other, offering meaningful feedback and encouragement whenever you need it, from someone who understands what you're trying to do.

Feeling a special sense of community...not being alone in leadership...that was everything.
  -- C.J.

That’s what makes these lessons so powerful.

They don’t just teach abstract concepts.

They create a culture of leadership that’s exceptional, authentic -- and also tailored to your campus needs.

The 10 ½ Lessons Framework

The structure of this workshop gave me concrete strategies that I could immediately apply.

 - participant
This workshop is not just a collection of leadership tips.

It’s a structured, research-backed framework, using principles of universal design and inclusive pedagogies, designed for practical application.

 10 LESSONS

LEARNED IN ORDER
Over two days, we move step by step through the 10 lessons. Each one is grounded in research but distilled into a simple, conversational phrase—so you can actually use it when you need it.

CASE STUDIES

CUSTOMIZED FOR YOUR CAMPUS

At key moments, we pause to apply what you’re learning through carefully crafted case studies written specifically for your cohort. These aren’t generic scenarios; they’re tailored to the actual leadership challenges on your campus, so you’ll leave knowing exactly how to use these skills in your role.

 COMMUNITY

THAT LASTS
Leaders struggle in isolation, so we use purposeful strategies (not awkward icebreakers) to build real connections among participants.

You'll leave with a network of peers who truly get what you’re facing.

THE LEADERSHIP FRAMEWORK

Each lesson builds on the last, creating a logical scaffolded framework.

The lessons are grouped into three tiers, creating a framework for quickly thinking through -- and solving -- your leadership problems.

THE SECRET 1/2 LESSON

COMPASSIONATE COACHING

Every great leader has a way of tying things together so their leadership feels cohesive & coherent.

So we do that, too.

You’ll learn a simple, repeatable skill -- compassionate coaching -- that you can practice repeatedly with yourself, with a trusted inner circle, and with your team. It’s the glue that makes all 10 lessons actually work in real leadership situations.

Carole is AMAZING!! She modeled everything she taught in a way that was genuine and appeared effortless (when I know it is far from effortless). You are deeply appreciated. Thank you for a thoughtful workshop that truly took care of people while teaching them.

I had a great deal of imposter syndrome feelings coming into this workshop but I felt valued and heard and respected by everyone in the room and I strongly believe that these frameworks and Carole's facilitation helped to foster that inclusive environment.

I think it was a great investment. Many of us were new to our role and are still trying to figure out how to navigate it.  This workshop provided tangible strategies and ways to act on them applicable to each of our challenges.

The timing of this workshop in early August was perfect.  For my context, it was 1 week before a chair retreat, 2 weeks before a faculty training event, and three weeks before the start of class.  Excellent timing as I was just getting powered back up for the fall.

So worthwhile. I am based in the Twin Cities so I didn't have to travel far to attend, but if there is a follow-up outside of the Cities I would travel to attend. Really appreciated the event and the opportunities it opened up.

THANK YOU for providing us with this opportunity. It was one of the most meaningful professional development events I have ever attended! I would love the opportunity to be able to continue meeting with Carole and this amazing new community at a follow up workshop or other experience. Seriously, I really can't thank you enough for offering this.

Investing in leadership means that you invest in the success of the college. Empowering faculty to lead means less burnout and more innovation on campus. Having workshops where chairs and program directors can see shared problems and talk to each other is invaluable.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Leaders at any level.

This started as a program for new department chairs and quickly grew to include program directors. This workshop benefits anybody leading a team, no matter their functional area or level of experience.

Why? Because people are people no matter what work they do. Leading people is fairly universal.

We offer separate versions of the worksohp for faculty leaders and other campus leaders. The content and framework is the same, but the case studies are customized to the folks in the room. It's one of the many ways this workshop is unqiue.

Hands down, this is best as a full two-day, immersive experience.

If you need mini-workshops spread over several weeks or months, we can do that too.

The workshop is a mix of active conversation, reading and reflection, and individual planning. We will organize those activities to meet your schedule and deliver the workshop in a way your leaders will enjoy.

We intentionally break the paradigm where inclusion is “extra” training.

Leading people is fundamentally about inclusion and psychological safety. Exceptional leaders value everyone on their team. We show them how.

As many as you like.

This workshop works incredibly well with large groups. It also can deepen connections for a small leadership team.

We've taught this to groups as small as a dozen and as large as 100+.

We'll work with you to accommodate your needs.

Either!

This workshop is incredibly dynamic in person – you can feel the buzz in the room.

But we’re skilled with hybrid and hyflex learning, so if you’re looking for an online workshop, we’ll bring that to life.

Let's talk about how your team likes to learn and what's best for your institution.

For a flat fee of $20,000, we’ll train up to 100 of your campus leaders.

The fee is fully inclusive, regardless of modality and schedule (and excluding your internal costs.)

If you’re a smaller organization, you can partner with another group to increase the number of participants.

Discounts are available for consortia, as well as women's colleges, community colleges, and HSIs and other minority-serving institutions.

We’ll support you with registration processes so it’s easy for everyone to sign up.

This was one of the most impactful things I have done, and as a leader in a new role, this gives me the opportunity to be authentic and proactive within the process and to lead more effectively.
